We are passionate advocates for users and are always exploring avenues to optimize the user experience to the point of extreme efficiency, hopefully with a bit of delight.
Can you name the last website you visited that didn’t have text-based content? Even streaming video services such as YouTube and Netflix require tons of text-based content to navigate, search and filter.
Given text-based content remains a primary driver of site traffic, the concept of Bionic Reading is interesting to explore as a mechanism for users to more effectively consume and understand text content. Bionic Reading is a new method facilitating the reading process by guiding the eyes through text with artificial fixation points. As a result, the reader is only focusing on the highlighted initial letters and lets the brain center complete the word. In a digital world dominated by shallow forms of reading, Bionic Reading aims to encourage a more in-depth reading and understanding of written content.
The content you are reading now has been formatted for Bionic Reading, so is it easier to read? Has the styling slowed you down enough to cause you to focus more appropriately? Or is it all a bit of a psychological ploy?
Check out Bionic Reading here where you can explore in-browser text conversion and play with the API for your experiences.
