The days of PDF-based brand guidelines are numbered thanks to the growing popularity of interactive graphical user interface (GUI) guidelines. And it's pretty obvious why these web-based guidelines are so popular – they're provided within the actual medium to be implemented and offer a single reference that can be updated in real time.
Interactive GUI guidelines are tools designed to do more than remind your team what fonts and colors to use across your websites and applications. They serve as real-world examples of the user experience in action while providing code snippets to enable others to implement within brand, thus supporting the creation of a beautiful and consistent user interface that enhances and optimizes the overall user experience.
After all, your user experience is your brand.
"Throughout Integrity's years of web product development work, we've seen more and more clients embracing this idea," said Integrity Partner and Chief Creative Officer Ed Morrissey. "The fact is today's consumer will remember your brand for more than just its logo and clean fonts. Today's consumer will remember her overall experience with your brand, particularly via web and mobile interactions."
This was the philosophy behind our recent work for Vizient, a healthcare analytics application shop seeking to establish brand consistency and improve the user experience across their growing suite of products.
Rather than simply update the guidelines and deliver via a PDF, we turned to our UX and web product development teams to create responsive, interactive GUI guidelines with the flexibility to grow and evolve with Vizient's business.
Integrity crafted the interactive GUI guidelines leveraging industry standard, cross-browser friendly HTML and JavaScript code snippets published via GitHub's repository and pages.
The resulting product is a comprehensive UI/UX guide to implementing the Vizient brand standards across all of their web analytics applications. It defines the styles for each unique UI/UX element with the code snippets included to make updating apps to fit the standards super efficient. Everything is broken down into sections, outlined in a universal navigation to ensure that all the information is easy to access.
Interactive GUI guidelines are invaluable tools supporting effective user expereinces, and our work for Vizient proves it.
